How To Use Amazing Paint
After launching Amazing Paint, an untitled window will appear on screen. This is the drawing window. An Equipment palette containing your tools should also appear. If it doesnﾕt, select the Tools menu and drag the menu away from the menu bar until an outline shape of the menu appears. Release the mouse button to "tear off" the Tools palette on to the desktop.
Amazing Paint's tools are located on the left side of the Tools palette. The right side of the palette is called the Action panel. It changes when different tools are selected to show the most common options available for the selected tool.
The top four tools, the Marquee, Lasso, Shape Selector and Wand, are selection tools. They let you choose areas or images you want to modify, duplicate, erase or move.
All the selection tools have the same Action panel. The options available allow you to add or subtract from the selection, clone the selection, flip the selection horizontally or vertically, rotate the selection in 90 degree increments or let go of the selection.
A selection must be made before the Action Panel will become active. Click the buttons to perform the action on the selected area.
Marquee: The Marquee selects rectangular areas. Click on a spot and drag the cursor diagonally. The Marquee will appear and anything inside the blinking perimeter will be selected.
Lasso: The Lasso selects any black pixels within an area youﾕve drawn with it. (It also selects any white pixels enclosed within black. For example, it will select the white pixels inside an ﾒO," but it wonﾕt select any white pixels within a ﾒCﾓ.) Select the Lasso and click and drag it around the object you wish to select. The selected area will blink. Think of it as lassoing an object.
Shape Selector: This tool is like a cookie cutter. Itﾕs used to select a predefined shape. Click on it and hold down the mouse button, another palette will appear. This palette shows different shapes for the shape selector.
Wand: The Wand captures areas that are enclosed. NOTE: The edges of the drawing window form an enclosure. If you click on a white space, the Wand selects the entire section of white that is enclosed. If you click on a black space, the Wand selects the entire section of black that is enclosed.

The next two tools are the viewing tools, the Hand and the Magnifier.
Hand: The Hand tool is used to move your painting around in the window. Select the Hand, and click and drag the document around the screen like sliding a piece of paper around on a desk.
Magnifier: Doing some detailed work? Select the Magnifier and click on the area you need to enlarge. It will double in size. Keep clicking to increase the power, up to 8x. Hold down the Command key while clicking to reduce the image. You can reduce it to 1/3x.

The rest of the tools are devoted to putting ink on the page (or in the case of the Eraser, to taking it off).
Line: This tool makes straight lines. Select the tool and click and drag in the drawing area. The line begins where you click the mouse and ends where you release the mouse button.
The Action panel will let you choose:
･Line Width (Click and hold this button. Select a line width from the panel that appears.)
･Line Pattern (Click and hold this button. Select the pattern from the panel that appears. The pattern can be further modified with the Ink, Rotate, Other and Nudge menus that appear in the panel.)
･Arrows (Click and hold this button. Select the type of arrowheads you want.)
Pencil: Just like it sounds! This tool is used to draw freehand lines. (But you can lock it into vertical or horizontal lines by holding down the Shift key.) Select the Pencil from the Tools palette and hold the mouse button down as you draw. The Pencil Size button lets you select a large, small, flat or square pencil point.
Paint Brush: The Paint Brush is also used for freehand work.
Use the buttons in the Action panel to:
･Select a shape for the brush. Some brush shapes are ﾒsequencedﾓ (indicated by a row of brushes at the top of the panel).
･Select the pattern of ﾒpaintﾓ the brush is to apply.
･And if the brush has a sequence, the Brush Seq. button will vary the rate at which the brush changes from shape to shape.
Eraser: This tool works like a chalkboard eraser to remove the black pixels from your drawing window. You can select the shape of the Eraser from the Action panel.
Spray Can: This tool applies paint like an airbrush. The Action panel lets you select the shape, the pattern and the speed at which the paint flows. If you move the cursor around while you are spraying the paint, youﾕll see that it works just like a can of spray paint. Hold it in one place to apply a thicker ﾒcoatﾓ of paint; keep moving it for a thinner coat.
Paint Bucket: This tool quickly fills any enclosed area with the pattern you select. Select the Paint Bucket, select the pattern, then click inside the enclosed area you wish to fill.
Text: The Text tool is used to type words or numbers in your drawing window. Select the Text tool and click in the drawing area. A text box appears with handles at each corner. You can drag the handles to resize the text box. Use the Back Pattern button in the Action Panel to select the pattern for the background of the text. (The pattern selected will fill the text box.) Use the Text Pattern button to select the ﾒinkﾓ you want to use to type your text. You can also choose different fonts and type styles from the Font and Style menus at the top of your screen.
The last five tools are Frame tools, used to make frames around areas in the drawing window. They all have the same Action Panel. One button for choosing the size of the frame (the thickness of the lines), another for choosing the pattern of the frame (the ﾒinkﾓ thatﾕs used to draw the lines) and another to choose what type of pattern should fill the area inside the frame.
Rectangle: To use this tool, select it and click and drag in the drawing area. One corner of the rectangle is placed where you click the mouse and the opposite corner is placed where you release the mouse button. Hold down the Shift key while using this tool to draw a square.
Rounded Rectangle: This works just like the Rectangle tool, button the corners are evenly rounded. You can alter the roundness of the corners by selecting ﾒRound Cornersﾓ from the Options menu. (Like the Rectangle tool, hold down to Shift key to make a rounded square.)
Oval: This tool places an oval inside an imaginary rectangle that you define by clicking and dragging. To draw a circle, hold down the Shift key while using this tool.
Free-form Frame: Click and drag a shape as though you were drawing it with the Pencil. As soon as your shape encloses an area, it will be filled with the pattern you selected with the Fill Pattern button.
Polygon Frame: Like the Shape Selector tool, click on the Polygon Frame tool to see a panel full of shapes you can draw. Choose one. While you click and drag the shape will stretch to fit the imaginary rectangle.

Play with Amazing Paint to learn more. Check out all the commands available in the menus. Be sure to see:
･Undo: In the Edit menu. If you select ﾒUndoﾓ three times, it will undo your last three actions!
･Perspective: In the Effects menu. It gives vanishing-point perspective to your art. Select any part of your painting; select ﾒPerspectiveﾓ and drag one of the handles that appears at the corners.
･Toolbox: In the Options menu. Did you alter a pattern, frame or brush and get it just the way you want it? Like to use it again in future paintings? Select ﾒToolboxﾓ and select ﾒNew Toolboxﾓ from the sub-menu that appears. Give it a name and click ﾒOKﾓ. The next time you want to use that pattern, brush or frame, select the desired toolbox from the Toolbox sub-menu. The patterns, brushes and frames will change to those in your toolbox.
･Mouse Tracking: In the Options menu. Allows you to precisely place, measure and monitor your mouse movements.
･Patterns: In the Options menu. It lets you pick a pattern and modify an enlargement of it. Click ﾒOKﾓ and the modified pattern is added to the Action panels that have Line, Frame or Fill Text or Back Patterns.
･Brushes: In the Options menu. Make your own brush shapes. You can also create sequences of brush shapes.
･Frames: In the Options menu. Create your own shapes to appear in the Polygon Frame tool panel (when the Polygon Frame tool is clicked).
